Are McDonald’s aware of how every farm they use for beef and chicken treat the animals they buy for slaughter? Do they care about humane killing options?

Our Answer

The humane treatment of animals is extremely important to McDonald’s South Africa (SA). Our standards and policies include critical requirements for the wellbeing of the animals, such as adequate feed, water and safe air quality. We prohibit the intentional abuse of animals and unapproved euthanasia methods. All suppliers and abattoirs from which our meat is sourced are routinely audited by independent, third party auditors to ensure compliance with McDonald’s Animal Health and Welfare Policies and local legislation. Failure to comply will result in the discontinuation of supply from the non-compliant facility.
